15 CHIC BOX BRAIDS HAIRSTYLES TO DO YOURSELF

Everyone likes box braids
because they offer an
excellent opportunity to
extend one’s hair and wear
versatile hairstyles which look
exquisite yet are very simple
to do. Box braids also protect
your natural hair and offer
the benefits of low
maintenance. The only
contraindication for box
braids is weak brittle hair.
But if you have none of such
complaints, don’t even
hesitate: box braids can be
styled in a number of
awesome ways. The most eye-
catching photo proofs are
below.
How Can You Style
Box Braids?
1. Buns. This is probably
the most popular way to
style your box braids into
a chic updo. The major
advantage of buns is
their variability. High
buns can be bulky or
more compact, loose or
tight, simple or with
elements of braiding.
2. Ponytails. Make a high
ponytail, wrap it with a
beautiful silken scarf or
attach a hair flower, and
you already look
awesome.
3. Twists. They are an
additional element that
you can introduce into
your creative hairstyles.
You can twist your
ponytail or front section
off your forehead, for
instance.
4. Braids. Asymmetric braids
from box braids, wrapping
either side of your
forehead are a brilliant
idea. See how
impressively it’s going to
look in the following
photos
#1: Pony Tail Or A
High Twisted Bun
These 2 striking hairstyles
are made on the basis of a
high ponytail from box
braids. If a bulky bun is a
bit too much for everyday, a
chic braided ponytail will
complement perfectly both
casual wear and more
elegant outfits for events.

#2: A High Loose
Bun For A Young
Mom
Box braids are ideal for
various types of buns.
Besides, you can style them
yourself very quickly. Simply
make a high ponytail and
wrap the braids around it,
shaping a loose bun.

image

#3: Box Braids
Say: “I Love You!”
There are many ways to
express your love to the
world. Wow! This is probably
one of the most creative
ones.

image

#4: Nice Idea For
A Party Hairstyle
Here is another variation of a
high bun from box braids.
This one is more compact
and elegant. Simply make a
tighter wrap around a high
ponytail and you get a
perfect hairstyle to go with a
cute cocktail dress.

image

#5: A Braided Hat
Fancy wearing a hat? If you
have box braids, you don’t
have one, because you can
create this very unique
hairstyle. Use the same idea
of a bun from a high
ponytail.

image

#6: Elegance &
Style
This imaginative updo needs
you to section off some
braids at the back of your
head to make this amazing
thick braid, elegantly
wrapping around the left
side of your forehead. Make a
high bun out of the
remaining braids. A brilliant
idea, isn’t it?

image

#7 A Cute Bun
From Beyonce
Beyonce also wears a high
bun but her stylists make it
unique, demonstrating skilful
twists, wraps, thicker and
thinner braiding and an
original color, accentuated
with stylish accessories.

image

#8: Stately
Hairstyle With
Loose Box Braids
Many girls who have box
braids are tempted to wear
them loose because they are
fun in movement. This one is
a very original way of how
your can wear your box
braids loose, having twisted
them creatively on top.

image

#9: An Exquisite
Braid In 4 Simple
Steps
Simply divide your braids
into 2 sections and braid one
thick braid on one side, so
that it rims your face. This is
a wonderful hairstyle for you
to make within minutes!

image

#10: A Fancy
Braided Bun
The end of this bun is
braided for a more luxurious
look. A few braids pulled out
from the updo resemble
hanging chains and make
this hairstyle more unique.

image

#11: A Delicate
Side Bun With A
Cute Hair Flower
Don’t forget to use cute hair
accessories. This small side
bun becomes even sweeter
when emphasized with a
tender hair flower and your
cute smile.

image

#12: Inspiration
From Celebrities
Use your fancy scarves to
adorn your high ponytail or
wear your box braids loose,
slightly covering your cheeks
as a long bob hairstyle.
Simple hairstyles often look
surprisingly chic, don’t you
think?

image

#13: Simple &
Surprisingly
Awesome
Who knew that such a simple
hairstyle will look so showy?
Beautiful quality braids often
do not suggest too fancy
hairstyles. Look how
gorgeously they flow and
wrap around a loose strand.

image

#14 Ornate Twists
For A Stylish Updo
Asymmetric updos grab
everyone’s attention, while
box braids are super chic in
twists. This is a simple twist,
wrapped around by a
previously separated section
of braids.

image

# 15: Super Grand
Bun
Do you mind getting taller
for a few inches? This is an
excellent idea of how to
become taller and brighter
with a grand bun that is so
easy to make.

variations of hairstyles, and

HOW TO ROCK LEGGINGS

image

There is no secret to it, women of all
body types can wear leggings. The
only trick is to finding the
appropriate clothings to wear with it
to give a chic and stylish
look. Although there is a great
similarity between skinny jeans and
leggings, it is very inappropriate to
wear leggings with short tops!!
When sizing it is important to note
that properly fitting leggings don’t
leave lines on your skin when you
take them off and should not show
visible lines under whatever you’re
wearing over them.

1. Wear leggings with short dresses

image

Leggings can be our best friends
when we want to wear short dresses
especially for tall ladies. Here
leggings come in handy, because
they can be very flattering to our
legs, and any short dress is not as
revealing anymore when combined
with these.

2. Printed leggings + simple top
combination

image

Leggings do not need much added
to them. A simple straight
sweatshirt/top will only
further accentuate printed leggings
and make them the main accent of
an outfit.

3. Wear leggings with long tops

image

Leggings can be worn with long tops
too. The crucial rule of wearing
leggings is to always wear a top that
covers your butt and goes slightly
further. In this particular photo,
leggings are combined with long
mustard top, and the bright
accessories of warm colour make the
look dressy and elegant.

4. With oversized top

image

Oversized top seem to rightfully be
the most popular piece of clothing
for wearing with leggings. First of all,
it creates so-needed balance in a
silhouette: skinny bottom and
volume on top. Secondly, an
oversized top that covers upper hips
and buttocks saves us from
overexposure.

I hope that has helped,have a great day lovlies…
XOXO

Sooner Rather Than Later

image

My thoughts on Remixing….
The first time I styled it
I said that I’d
restyle this piece*maxi skirt*. I didn’t
know it would happen
sooner rather than later.
Styling pieces has become a
mental thing for me.
If I am really feeling a
garment I can style it in my
head
several different ways from
the time I lay eye on it.
It feels nice when I execute
this vision and I turns out
just the way I thought it
would.
It’s validating when those
around me marvel at my
style.
It makes me feel the same
way an artist does after they
created a painting

image

…A singer after an album,

image

…A writer after a book,

image

…A chef after a delectable
meal.
My validation does not lie in
people’s responses, but it
helps when they get the
vision.
/Side Note:/This
Skirt was sooooo
comfortable! I
realized it
as I was editing
these pics!
Comfortable +
Versatile + Chic=
Win/Win/Win!!!!

HOW TO tie a TURBAN with a SCARF

Hey ladies! So from the comments
I got on the Turban style
inspiration post, I realized
some of you might not know how
to tie a turban/head wrap…so i
Tried to find the best photo tutorial of 5
different looks…*am sorry i dint have time to do it myself,i’ve been so busy but anywho atleast i found an article that will help*

Please take note! The names of
these turbans are completely
made up (by me *big grin*) So
here goes…

image

LOOK 1 (Mini turban)
STEPS:
1. Fold a square scarf into two, to
form a triangle (could be silk or
cotton scarf…i used silk)
2. Place at the back of your head,
leaving the tapered end to fall
towards your forehead.
3. Tie a knot and make sure the
tapered end is firm and secure,
tuck in any loose cloth at the top.
4. Take the tapered end with any
of the sides, then twist.
5. Make a small fold at the back
and tuck the end of the twist
inside it.

image

LOOK 2 (Front tuck)
STEPS:
1-3. Same as Look 1 above
4. Tie a bow with the two ends
5. Fold the bows inwards and
tuck the tapered ends backwards.

image

LOOK 3- Side bun*you can make it on the front if you prefer, like i do*
STEPS:
1. Using a rectangular scarf
(preferrably cotton) fold into two
(forming a narrow rectangle)
2. Start from the back of the head
and tie at the side.
3. Twist the two ends together
(make sure the twist is tight)
4. Roll the twisted up piece
around itself
5. Place your hand in the middle
so that the bun stays flat.

image

LOOK 4- Wrap around
STEPS:
1. Fold your rectangular scarf into
a slimmer rectangle
2. Start from the front and cross
the two ends at the back.
3. Wrap one end across your head
to the other end
4. Cross them at the point they
meet, and wrap the second end to
the other side of your head.
5. Tuck the longer end (or shorter
end, whichever you’re comfortable
with) at the back, and tuck any
loose piece of the loose end to
your satisfaction. (Arrange, push
and tuck till you get the look
you’re happy with)

image

LOOK 5- Side tuck
STEPS:
1. With a rectangular scarf, start
from the front (leaving hair out is
optional)
2. Cross at the back
3. Take to the side and tie the
two ends together
4. Tie a second knot (not too
tightly)
5. Tuck in the shorter end at the
back of the knot, then bend and
tuck in the longer end…tuck tuck
tuck arrange tuck…till it’s firm
and in place.

These are just a few of the
numerous ways to tie a turban…

ALL BLOCKED OUT….

image

This trend just keeps
going and going and… well you get
the idea. If you haven’t jumped
on the blocking trail for yourself,
no worries there’s still time for you
to dip into the color madness.
Searching for some blocking
inspiration or a how-to guide?
Well your in luck. The folks over
at Refinery 29 are giving you the
A,B,C’s on how to master this trend
with their post, 5 Genius
Steps To Colorblock
Perfection.

Yes it’s the denim again. I
can’t seem to tear myself away
from this shirt. So much so its
safe to say that this shirt is
almost becoming like a uniform.
This time around I decided to pair
my denim shirt with my thrifted
Fushia blazer and my ankara pencil skirt
for a color blocked look.
So if your scared to mix those colours up,DON’T BE,see how easy I made it look and it worked….
WERK IT….

TURBAN TO THE RESCUE…

image

There are moments when styling
my hair takes me to a completely
dark side. I get impatient, my
hands get sweaty and I’m sure I’m
not in the best of moods . But
you can always make it a little different . After
completely giving up on getting my
hair to work,I started
looking for something to mask my
not so cute mane. I knew I had a
scarf that I bought sometime ago
and decided to try out a turban
look. A twist there and a tuck
there and this is what I got .

image

Would you try the turban look? If
you’ve already dived into this look I
would for you to share them with
me on my instagram and
Facebook pages…
Remember when your having a bad hair day, take that scarf that has been tucked away at the back of your closet collecting dust, and rock this look… Its not only fashionable and chic but you also get to keep warm*talking about them ears* in this cold season.
Dont forget to keep warm lovlies xoxo

STYLE HAS NO SIZE,BUT IT SHOULD FIT…

image

In the world of fashion and style
people will not always agree with
your take on what’s stylish but that
is what makes us all different . We
as people are most definitely
entitled to our own opinion but it’s
another thing when you scrutinized
others because of your own
insecurities . Most plus size women
are not all for showing a bit of skin
because they don’t feel comfortable .
I say if you are doing it in a tasteful
way then go for it . As long as your
body is snatched in the right places
why not . No one should be offended
by someone being confident .

Plus
size fashion has come a long way
but still I feel as though there is a
lack of selections in trendy clothing
for women who wear a size 14 and
up . Which is my reason to want to
design clothing for women who wear
extended sizes . I’m here to
showcase fierce fashion for women
who can relate to me . Fashion and
style is not determined by size but
determied by creativity and artistry…

BABY STEPS…

image

Baby Steps. Those are usually the
words that I am silently whispering
to myself when I’m reminded that
fear takes time to overcome. I’m
sure this will sound silly but
showing off my arms scares me.
What scares me exactly? Well
maybe it’s the constant thought
that I’ll be judged. Will people
take note of my very much visible
stretchmarks? or will they gawk at
my jiggly arm fat? I don’t know
but what I do know is I was never
crazy about how I looked in
anything sleeveless and had
banished myself from wearing it.
Yes even in the hottest of
temperatures sleeveless was off
limits for me. It’s something that
I have carried from my younger
years into my adult life. As I’ve
gotten older (and by older I mean
maybe a year or two ago. Hey I
said baby steps.) I’ve slowly
entertained the idea of going
sleeveless. To some it may not
seem like such a big deal and that
some would be right but I’m taking
steps into a space where I’m kinda
ok with this sleeveless thing and
that makes me smile. I am
learning and I am growing. Gotta
love those baby steps.
