WEARING MIDI SKIRTS TO WORK

Midi skirts are skirts whose lengths end just
below the knee and the mid-calf. Most women
avoid this trend because they feel it does nothing
to flatter their figure but really it gives you this
feminine and grown up look and what’s more, it
hides the bump in our mid region so those of us
whose stomachs are not on the flat side need not
worry about bumps showing. It’s only right to
say that it can be a bit difficult to pull off this
trend especially when it is to be worn to work
because most women do not know what to
consider when it comes to wearing a midi skirt.

Length : This is a crucial thing to consider
because not all lengths are for everyone and a
wrong length leaves us looking unattractive and
nobody wants that, so if you are on the shorter
side you shouldn’t go with a skirt that goes past
your knee while taller ladies can go longer.

image

Balance your look : If your midi skirt is busy that
is, has a lot of prints we suggest you go with a
plain top and also tuck in your top or wear crop
tops so your all the attention stays on your waist.
But since we are considering wearing them to
work we suggest you stick with tucking in your
tops.

image

Jackets: If you have to use a jacket, i suggest
you go with a cropped jacket as this still leaves
your waist area visible.

image

Footwear : Basically, most of your foot wears will
go with a midi skirt but for a sophisticated look,
put on a pair of heels and you are good to go.

GET READY IN 15 MINUTES….

image

Whether you were up later than
usual and need some more time in
bed, or you’ve just been invited to
an impromptu meeting at work,
getting yourself ready and out of the
house on time can be a bit tricky.
Contrary to popular beliefs that says
you can’t look your best when you’re
in a rush – having a basic routine
changes this.
This is the secret to getting ready
quicker in the morning! as it allows
you time to attend to the needs of
the house (breakfast, husband, kids,
family members etc).
Your basic morning routine should
have these major key factors;
1. Grooming routine.
Figure out what look you would love
to wear to work that day and lay the
necessary cosmetics openly and well
arranged on your dressing
table. Once you have your makeup
routine down, you can probably
organize it into a five-minute system
—for example, concealer, foundation,
powder, eyeliner, mascara, gloss…go!
-If you use cleansers, remember to
set it on the table too alongside
your  cotton wool (or any other
applicator).
– Instead of having to straighten out
or curl your hair in the morning, do
it at night and wrap it up with a
SILK scarf. All you will have to do is
just comb out or run your finger
through it in the morning.

image

2. Closet.
Organize your clothes the night before.Using them as inspiration,
assemble and lay out your outfit,
shoe accessories and even
underwear.
-Organize your closet. This allows
you to easily find the pieces you are
looking for and getting ready won’t
take so long. You can organize your
closet:
– by colour
– by fabric type
– by outfit
Also, rotate outfits from season to
season. Put thick outfits behind
during the hotter seasons and vice
versa.

image

image

image

3. Work stuff.
If you find yourself carrying home
work after office hours, before you
turn in for the day pack everything
up; your laptop or tablet, files and
documents etc, put it in your
briefcase or work bag and set
everything by the door or better yet
take them back to the car.

image

4. Keys.
Looking for your keys while trying to
rush out in the morning can be so
annoying. So what do yo do? put
your keys in the same place every
single time. Get a key bowl or install
a hook and hang your keys on it
every single day without fail.

image

5. A more unconventional option is
to always have a Go-To outfit.
When all else fails, you forgot to set
out an outfit the night before, you
are already minutes late, what do
you do? you pull out an outfit; that
dress or top that doesn’t require
ironing and always looks nice, match
it up with a blazer and a bunch of
accessories and you are good-to-go.

SKIRTS THAT YOU MUST HAVE….

Skirts come in various shapes and
styles and they are essential items
in a woman’s wardrobe. It’s common
to think that skirts are not as easily
worn as other items like jeans but a
few pair of skirts that can be easily
paired with multiple shirts can be
worn everyday just like jeans. They
can even be dressed up more unlike
jeans.
When selecting skirts its best to
choose neutral colours that can be
worn with several other items and
more importantly, go for skirts that
best compliment your body shape
Like dresses, here is a list of various
skirts types that you should have in
your wardrobe.
1. Pleated A-line skirt
This is small at the waist and
widens evenly as it reaches towards
the ground. They are usually wider
at the hemline than at the
waistline. This type of skirt is perfect
for women with heavy lower parts
because skirts like this stay away
from anything that is too tight at
the bottom.

image

2. Midi skirt
An elegantly full midi skirt is the
perfect accompaniment for a variety
of ensembles, making this basic, but
hardly boring.

image

3. Pencil skirt
Pencil skirts are extremely stylish,
wonderfully sexy and quite versatile
– and with the right accessories and
styling, you can easily transform it
from a plain librarian look into
something more chic and fun.

image

4. Peplum hem skirt
Peplum hems are so on trend this
season and are great for teaming
with a fitted shirt tucked in or a
printed tee. Add a splash of colour
with accessories, a handbag
and ankle strap heels.

image

5. A monochrome skirt
White and black (monochrome)
skirt is the perfect addition to your
wardrobe this season. Pulling off the
statement-making skirt is made easy
with this stretchy, figure
accentuating number.

image

6. Maxi Skirt
Maxi skirts are a must-have
separate for day or night. Hot
weather or cold, black-tie or laid-
back, no matter the occasion, there’s
a long skirt that can fit the bill.

image

Some additional tips:
-Flat bottomed women should wear
skirts that are tight or fitted to make
their buttocks look bigger, skirts
scrunched at the waistline also give
the appearance of size. Avoid skirts
like the A-line or fishtail they make
your bottom like flatter
-Short women shouldn’t wear skirts
that extend below the knees,
slimmer and slightly tapered skirts
give the appearance of height
-Tall women can wear knee length or
calf length skirts.
-Women that are not curvy and
women that have a really heavy
upper part should wear skirts that
are shorter, fuller and scrunch up at
the waistline because it adds
volume to the bottom half of the
body which creates a balanced look.
-If you have a big stomach it is
advisable to wear skirts that are
tapered skirts that are not tight at
the waistline or a peplum skirt.

DENIM AND LACE

Hello lovelies,
So i love the concept of pairing
something that is supposedly so
feminine like lace with something
tough, like denim so i wore this for
a lazy day in town with one of my
bestie.
I definitely got a lot of looks in this
lol.

image

Anywhoo, I have decided to do a
new series on my blog call The
Trend: How Big Girls Rock It!
The concept is, you guys can pick a
trend like say colored denim, neon
and so on and i’ll post 3 different
ways to wear that trend. So keep
the ideas coming and i’ll work on
them as soon as i get it!
Hugs & Kisses!

15 Plus Size Fashion Tips to Know So You Can Have Fun

image

I love this place and space we are
in as it pertains to plus size
fashion. There are so many more
designers, retailers, boutiques, and
places to stalk for inspiration and
shopping! Navigating it all can be
a bit overwhelming or a challenge,
but as you are here (welcome)
there are tons of resources and
articles to help you along the way.
But what I have realized is that
there is so much, that figuring out
how to start, what to do, or how to
do it can be a bit overwhelming-
so what I have done is hooked you
up with a fun slideshow of 15 plus
size fashion tips to live by (or ones
that I do anyways!) to reference as
you go about your fashionable day!
I love that we no longer see sooo
many of those “Rules” articles in
plus size fashion… I tore apart the
last article I saw about plus size
fashion tips… pshaw- not on my
watch! Now it is a time of learning,
finding, and experimenting! YES
honey, yes! Where do we begin?
What and how will it help you out?
No worries! Take a read below the
images to help you out!! Are you
ready?
15 PLUS SIZE
FASHION TIPS TO
KNOW SO YOU CAN
HAVE FUN

15. Forget the notion of
what plus size fashion WAS
and embrace what it is
today
This one here can be a challenge.
We have been accustomed to only specific styles, and
certain options. We now have new
designers, on trend silhouettes,
retailers who cater to our style and
desires, and the platforms to speak
out and up on what we want, like,
and need!

image

14. KNOW your
measurements
While most of our shopping options
are online, it is imperative that we
know our measurements NOT just
in clothing, but bras and our calf
sizes! Get fitted at least once a
year,
and break out the measuring tape
whenever you are not sure about
the fits!

13. Toss out the “rules”
that have been drilled into
our heads
I mean. Don’t show your belly. No
horizontals. No patterns. Black is
slimming. Don’t wear items that
are body conscious… PSHAW. With
all of these rules, how can one
enjoy the progression of plus size
fashion today? Find a rule and
break it I say! Go far out with it
too! You never know what you will
find!

12. Play with Color
Color is proven to affect, change,
and alter ones mood. I mean you
cannot NOT be happy in Yellow.
Blue is calming and relaxing. Red
is a spicy and sassy color that
makes you feeeeeel. Find a hue
that you are drawn to and play in
baby steps, then in focal items, OR
do a head to toe monochromatic
look!

image

11. Find an accessory style
that works for you
I have a thing for rings. The
bigger, the gaudier, the edgier- the
better. LOVE belts. LOVE boots.
Earrings as big and long as I can
take them. Accessorize to Maximize
I say! We all have a signature,
whether we notice or care, it is
there. Find it- that finishing touch
that defines you and work it. If you
have a penchant for stilettos- then
walk, walk, fashion baby!

image

10. Have a tailor on deck
Not necessarily on deck, but one
that you know you can reply on to
do those finite fixes and tweaks to
your garments. Many times, off the
rack will not fit you perfectly and
this is NORMAL. Taking your pieces
to a tailor,you will have a garment
that looks and feels like a million
bucks for less than ksh200 in toi market

9. Get the girls fitted
Having a perfectly fitted bra is like
heaven. Your back thanks you, your
clothes love you, and life just feels
better when the girls are in their
place (or free- I think this is the
best feeling). I was instructed that
any time you lose or gain, twice a
year, and after nursing are times
when you should get fitted.
Hrmph. I do not get fitted
religiously, but often enough. I
must add, getting fitted for
European bras is a must. Sizing is
different and so are the cuts!

8. Prints are playful and
fun- Focus on scale or the
size of the print
A bold print can be a mood
changer. I am here for a great
print too! Depending on what
areas of your body that you love,
place the print on the area you do
not mind the attention, as the eye
will gravitate there. Also, if you
want to make that area look
smaller, a smaller print, don’t care
or want to make bigger? A bolder
and bigger scaled print will do!

image

7. Forget the size of the
garment- focus on fit
The only person who will see the
size of your garment is you. While
we can have a gamut of sizes in
our closets, fit is the most
important. Some brands prefer a
more tailored look, some brands
are more conservative, others have
different fit methods- you are not
alone here. A great fit looks
best over whatever size it is on the
inside.

6. Experiment with
silhouettes and shapes
I am guilty of this. Being scared of
a new shape or trend that has hit.
But I DID IT! I have faced my fear
of a skater skirt. I played in bold
patterns and prints, embracing
more separates. I have been on a
personal evolution and I am here
for this exploration! You never
know what you really like or love
without playing around with new
shapes. You may realize that you
love your legs in midi skirts, your
arms in cap sleeves, or your legs in
shorts! You never know!

image

5.Nail it.
I do love a great nail. I love nail
stickers even more. I must admit,
some days where you feel a little
blah, having the nails done
automatically makes me feel
dressed up or feeling a little bit
more fancy. I do love a great clean
manicure, but sometimes you want
to jazz it up a bit! Whatever it is,
find something that does it for you
and have fun with it!

image

4. Play with new
fabrications
Modal Cotton feels like second
skin. Silks feel amazing and drape
quite nicely. Double faced wool is
both chic and warm. Cashmere
blends are like butter. Supple
leather hugs the curves just right.
Before, we only had the option of
cheaper poly blends and jerseys.
With technology and designers
bringing the quality and luxury, we
have a few new fabrications to play
in! I dare you to try it! Your skin
and curves will thank you!

3. Challenge yourself to try
a new trend
SKATER skirts ? Jumpsuits? Two
Piece Bikinis? Say WHATTT? Ohhh
yes. SKORTS? Culottes? Do you
dare? I say try them! They may be
the best thing since sliced bread
and you didn’t EVEN know! What
will it hurt to test it out, try it on,
and give it a go? I face my fear,
have welcomed palazzo pants,
donned more than my fair share of
crop tops and have been having
fun with my fears!

image

2. Make a statement
For me, most of the times I have
realized, it is my hair that makes
the statement and I am okay with
this. Hehehe. But other times, I
want my ring to take center stage,
the shoes, or the dress. Whatever
it is, I allow it to do the talking for
me when I want it to.

image

1. Have FUN!
At the end of the day, there
should be a bit of fun and self-
expression that should come from
shopping, dressing up and finding
new items to dress your curves in!
It should be fun! Not shrouded in
rules, boxes, and hindrances. Be
open, step outside your box, and
explore!
These are a JUST few plus size
fashion tips to play in and with to
help you along your way.

I KNOW ITS BEEN A WHILE SINCE I POSTED,MY APOLOGIES…I WILL MAKE UP FOR THAT
Have a great evening lovlies 🙂

2014 TRENDS

image

When it comes to plus-
size clothing, let’s be
thankful to a hundreds of
plus-size fashion bloggers
out there who help
cultivate and change the
landscape of fashion by
sharing fabulous styles in
their beautiful real curves.
Speaking of 2014 Plus Size
Trends,
this year is all about
showing our self-love as
full-figured women, being
confident to fashion all
types of clothing we love
to wear, and prooving that
the full figure doesn’t
have to be clothed a
particular way or we don’t
have to shy away from
particular fits, colors,
patterns, or styles of
clothing.
From the brightness of
white-on-white outfits to
the chicness of crop tops
to the femininity of
pastels and laces to the
busy prints of tribal and
floral to the flattering
jumpsuits, there are a
variety ways for
curvaceous ladies to rock
these trends.
Here are some of the most
dominant plus size trends
for this season.
Aztec: There’s no better
way to show your full
figure shape, than with
busy prints donned in
most striking yet elegant
attitude. Just what it
sounds like, this trend
screams lots of colors and
vibrant prints. Think of
tribal prints, colorful
shades, busy details, then
take those prints and
infuse them onto dresses,
tops, leggings, and long
skirt.

image

Flower Power: The trend
of flowers seems to always
take center stage for
spring. But this time
around we see new
interpretations ranging
from quite sweet and
polished to edgy and
bold. Find it’s best to
wear flowers as separates
or dress with layers to add
more dimension and
capture the interest of the
bold ones with subtler,
more neutral hues.

image

Stripes: The striking
striped design is far from
shy and retiring, from the
classic monochrome
striped staples, to the
must-have colorful ones,
whether it’s horizontal,
vertical, or diagonal, or
even various designs of
stripes, just update the
trend with these prints to
achieve that classy, stylish
look.

image

Digital Graphic Prints:
Give some fun and
personal touch to your
outfit by opting simple
shirt or other staples with
interesting graphic prints
and/or colorful arty
creations. Whether you
are being playful, sporty,
feminine, wild, and
cheeky, there are sure to
be a few items you can
find with digital prints. In
plus size fashion, this one
was a hit for fall and
carries into spring.

image

White on White: As classy
as black, white has always
been one timeless color
that always in style. But
unlike black, white has
always been recognized as
a pure color reflecting a
calm and neutral
ambiance, while also
providing a light
atmosphere. Start making
your transitional wardrobe
must-have all about
Whites. Think clean
minimalism and clean
lines. If the all-white is
just a bit too much for
you, break it up with pop
of color.

image

Black and White: Not only
white-on-white that is
high this season, the
classic color combination
black and white is also
having such a moment in
fashion right now. The
trend offers sophisticated,
elegant, and super stylish
look, especially with
beautiful details finishing
off the garment. You can
either create a Black and
White fashion statement
by combining between
prints and solids, mixing
prints, or between solids
and solids to create
perfect mix-and-match
piece.

image

The Pastel: Wearing
pastels will always make
you look like a woman in
love. It’s a feminine color
that evokes romantic
spring days perfectly. You
can pick your most-
flattering color and wear
it with whatever
silhouette flatters (and
excites) you. Do this for
many different occasions
in many different outfits.

image

Blue and Green: Whether
blue or green, especially
pastels, such as calm
placid blue and green
hemlock, both colors are
popular this  2014
reminiscent of springtime
nature. For a more
striking, luxe look at night,
slip on an iridescent
dress, or opt for staples in
royal blue and emerald
green.

image

Denim: Chambray gets
another season. Some are
calling it “double denim
or denim on denim”
dressing in dungarees
from head to toe. Vests
and jean jackets emerge
as must-have items for
spring. Wear your
boyfriend jeans with floral
tops for feminine vibe or
pair your denim vest with
graphic tee for sporty chic
look. Along with rocking
your favorite go-to denim
this season, you can also
think about adding a cool
denim vest or jacket for a
full on denim-on-denim
look.

image

Lace: Lace will continue
as an important fabric and
trim for fashion 2014 as it
was last year. From a
white lace pieces evoking
the hottest season color
trends to a beautiful
midnight blue lace dress,
embrace your outfits with
lace for a touch of
romance. Give a touch of
pop color or stripe
pattern, or make a black
and white statement, to
add interest.

image

Crop Top : Crop tops have
been everywhere this
season, from the city
streets to the runways.
While there are the more
feminine and sporty
options, the crop top for
spring has also evolved,
giving us a range of
options. There are a
variety of ways to rock this
crop top trend.
Just make sure to strike a
balance with your waist,
and you don’t have to
show too much skin while
donning this trend. Wear
a high-waisted skirt or
high-rise trousers on the
bottom to give that
elegant, urban-chic look.

image

Jumpsuit: This staple also
seems to be back in full
force for spring. Both
short – called rompers –
and long, are SO in this
season that you can sport
this trend in different
occasions. It is a
comfortable, one-piece
outfit that can make even
the most fashion-wary
female seem like she has
it all together. Just
embrace your full-figured
shape by emphasizing you
waist with belt to give
curvier silhouettes.

image

Harem Pants: The
infamous harem pants are
back. Just a few years ago,
harem pants were
everywhere and then
started to fade out. And
for 2014, harem pants can be
a refreshing piece that
you can easily dress up or
down. Opt for harem
pants with denim jacket,
simple tee, and flats or
sneaker for a more casual
look, or choose a tailored
top for dressing up your
harem pants

image

Sporty Chic: Other than
looking feminine and
romantic with pastels and
floral prints, the bright
season 2014 also gives
space for sporty pieces
such as baseball style
jackets, jersey shirt and
sneakers, especially for
many women who love the
casual, comfy feel of those
items. To get the look of
this trend, think skater
skirts, tennis elements,
hoodies, windbreakers and
zippers and other athletic
inspirations.

image

Peplum: As one of the
most figure-flattering
pieces on curvaceous
women, peplum has
always been considered as
one of the hottest trends
being seen everywhere.
While the trend took off in
late 2013, it will explode in the
months of 2014. You can
wear peplum dresses,
tops, and skirts, and you’ll
look smashing in all of
them.

image

Maxi Dress: Maxi dresses
are extremely versatile,
comfortable, and super
stylish, as it moves well
with your curves and look
fabulous. It’s a staple
piece in your closet that
can easily go from day to
evening with just a
change in shoes and
accessories and the
addition of a jacket or
cardigan.Lately we
see the maxi dress being paired
with this season’s hottest
trends like stripes, florals,
Aztec, and pastel shades.
